Hi! How are you?
My intention to send out the newsletter yesterday was quickly forgotten once I arrived in Davidson, North Carolina. I am pet and house sitting for two adorable dogs, which took priority, and the day slipped by. There were workers in the new house, finishing up some repairs, and the noise and smells threw me off. I am seated on a king bed with the noise machine gently rumbling in the background as I type. Hammers continue to ring in the distance, but the dogs are quietly napping with me.
There is a pocket of time for me to finish up my writing.
Embracing Virgo Season
Virgo Season began on Thursday, August 22, along with the New Moon. This season is one of sacred simplicity and re-establishing rhythms and rituals in your life. This season bridges the gap between the end of Summer the beginning of Autumn, on September 22.
This time of year may leave you feeling scattered and overwhelmed after a busy and full summer. With the return of children to school, the desire for new habits and schedules may emerge.
The to-do lists get longer and longer, while time seems to get shorter and shorter, as the cooler nights and fading sun set in. There is a sense of urgency to prepare and tend to the home before Autumn and Winter arrive.
There is a pull towards nourishing food, simplicity, order, and calm. Instead of the unrealistic expectation of accomplishing it all, shorten the lists and break up the tasks into actionable steps. Sort, clean, and organize one drawer closet room rather than tackling the entire house.
Do Less
Last Sunday, I finally tackled my son’s room that he vacated upon returning to college. He had rearranged the room and left it dirty and cluttered. After avoiding it for a week, I showed up and brought fun into the task. I turned on the Into the Wild soundtrack by Eddie Vedder and placed my wireless earphones in my ears.
I dragged the vacuum upstairs, cleaning supplies, and evaluated the chore. I began by carefully wrapping and packing up the old, blue pottery sculptures that were stacked on the shelf in the closet. Adding trinkets and swag from the desktop, I filled up an old shoe box and placed it in the attic. I proceeded to deep-clean the wood surface of the desktop, now clear of clutter. I spread clean sheets on the bed and covered the bed with a handmade quilt.
The room began to take shape. I vacuumed and washed the floor on my hands and knees. I allowed myself to sway with the music of Society, listening to the lyrics.
Oh, it's a mystery to me
We have a greed, with which we have agreed
And you think you have to want more than you need
Until you have it all you won't be free
Society, you're a crazy breed
I hope you're not lonely without me
The vocals, music, and sentiment of the song sent me into a moment of reflection.
Clean, clear spaces bring me joy.
My brain settles, and my breath expands in my chest.
I feel settled and calm.
I need less.
I placed the acoustic guitar and bass cases in the closet and quietly closed the doors. There was a familiar tug at my heart, similar to the day I moved Ethan into his new apartment.
The closing of a chapter and the opening of a new one.
My hubby, Rob, moved his office back upstairs, while I reclaimed my space in the cubby in my bedroom. As I sorted through my art supplies, I imagined my space. The large empty bulletin board stood waiting for new images to cover the surface.
The ongoing project of sorting and selecting magazine images continues to fill me with joy. I added and removed other images, curating the inspiration for my life and soulwork. As I gaze at the images scattered on the porch, there is a golden hue that runs through them. Movement, nature, travel, creativity, and connection are represented in them.
These themes continue to fuel my life, and I am refining and creating new rhythms to support my devotion.
Devotion
As you move through Virgo Season, how can you explore and express your devotion in new ways?
What is essential in your life right now? The person you are today, not the one before.
How can you devote more attention to that?
What habits or structures would support and nourish you?
Virgo Season provides the vessel or container for your spiritual insights. This is a time of refinement, discernment, and structure. It is also a time of flow, surrender, and magic. It is time to weave devotion, nourishing practices, and wild magic into your life in fresh ways.
Have fun and enjoy the process.
❤️ Talk to you soon!

Can you spot the baby deer? I startled it’s grazing as I snapped the shot.
The description of virgo season as a bridge resonates with me. I have my moon in virgo and I always feel more at ease in September.
Hi Blythe!
It's nice to be able to drop in to leave a comment or two with you again.
I have to agree when you write:
"This time of year may leave you feeling scattered and overwhelmed after a busy and full summer."
"The to-do lists get longer and longer, while time seems to get shorter and shorter"
And lately this has proven true for me lately. Days just seem to fly by.
I see where you as well have been very busy lately, what with your son returning to college.
We in our family can relate to past years when our two kids would head back each fall to resume another year of their education at their respective universities.
Oh well, here's hoping that we all get some time to relax a bit and enjoy this long Labour Day weekend. As you write, maybe "It is time to weave devotion, nourishing practices, and wild magic into our life in fresh ways."
Take care, my friend. Hopefully I'll be able to talk to you here again soon.
